educational leaders find it difficult to develop and sustain teamwork (2002). In fact, a number of authors have asserted that in order to sustain teamwork, leaders must have a comprehensive
and sophisticated knowledge and understanding about team development (Fullan, 2002). For teams to be successful and effective, the group members must all have a commitment to the task and to
the team (Fullan, 2002). Teams are developed and it is here the educational leader plays a critical role - training the members of the team in the group skills needed
for success, such as communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution. This is true whether the educational leader is a member of the team or is supervising the team. Smialek reported training
team members in group skills have been identified as the "most necessary element of team effectiveness and success" (2002). The school principal or other administrator need to act as trainer
and coach to the team. It is also important to bear in mind there is an evolutionary process in team development that will only be fully realized when teams and
