has provided information that has been directly applicable to my personal team function. Communication has improved since beginning the module, but preserving focus and building a shared vision still
need improvement. Effective Team Function Workforce Online provides a checklist for team effectiveness that covers four primary points of team function.
Those four points include: * Horizontal function; * Shared vision; * Boundaryless operation; and * Shared measures of success (Team Effectiveness Checklist, 2002).
The publishers of the Team Effectiveness ProfileTM program state that their program addresses five primary areas: mission, planning, goal setting; organization and roles; operating processes; interpersonal relationships; and inter-group
relations. The program begins with a 50-item inventory to be completed by team members, the purpose of which is to discover how effective the specific team is in each
of the five general areas. Of course communication provides the means by which all other factors come into play and into success, and
one of the factors of team function that has improved significantly is that of communication. Before the module communication was not extremely poor but was not perfect, either.
Gaining a greater awareness of the critical nature of communication in the team setting has helped to improve it. Simply being aware of it enough to continually assess whether
it is being effective in itself has the effect of increasing its effectiveness. Players who are asking themselves if they are doing all they can to communicate fully and
effectively appear to put more energy and effort into the process, ensuring that the others involved in any specific exchange fully understand what the communicator is trying to convey.
