A 5 page paper discussing aspects of differences in teams: demographic, geographic, skills and personality. The bottom line is that, while differences in personality, culture and abilities can be difficult to deal with at times, the team can benefit from those differences if it will use them. Not using those differences for the benefit of the team constitutes ignoring a valuable resource that could add much to the team and to its performance. ethnic group in the nation, and it is expected that they will outnumber blacks in the US within the span of the current generation. Added to this is the
rapid growth of Asians of the Pacific Rim, and growth within other ethnic groups as well. At the same time, the team structure
is permeating all of business and education. Aranda, Aranda and Conlon (1998) note that few countries possess cultural diversity to the degree found in the United States, "and teams
within US organizations reflect this diversity" (p. 128). All teams reflect diversity in skills, abilities and personality; cultural diversity introduces another factor affecting team performance. Other demographic and
geographic differences affect team function as well. Demographic Differences The basic purpose of the team structure is to bring a variety of perspectives
to some specific effort. Teams can exist for a specific, short-term purpose such as building a website function for an organization, or they can comprise the base unit in
which current decisions and long-term plans are made and implemented. Regardless of the primary structure and purpose of the team, nearly every team can benefit from containing a variety
of team members differing in culture, age and experience. Age differences are valuable in that older team members can bring to the team
