Most teachers structure their lessons using a presentation, practice, production (PPP) model (Zorro and Castillo, n.d.). The teacher presents the new language within a framework of familiarity to the student.
Perhaps the teacher would first go around the room and identify items in English. Items would be identified with the English word for them. During the presentation phase, the teacher
would speak most of the time. The teacher would use proper grammar to discuss items (Zorro and Castillo, n.d.). The lesson would then move on to practice, which
can be accomplished in different ways. Students may repeat the English words for items identified. In this structure, students would speak about half the time with the teacher correcting and
also continuing lessons (Zorro and Castillo, n.d.). The next stage is production when students would use the new language in a different context (Zorro and Castillo, n.d.). The PPP
method is used frequently but it can be enhanced with the ESA method, which also has three stages, engage, study and activate. In the engage stage, the teacher attempts to
arouse student interest and also to engage their emotions (Zorro and Castillo, n.d.). Many different stimuli could be used to engage students emotions, such as pictures, videos, a story, a
humorous anecdote (Zorro and Castillo, n.d.). If students emotions are involved, they will be more motivated to learn English. During the study phase, students are involved in activities that
