workers and without them many workers would struggle against incredible odds with no form of protection. Teacher unions are one of many different types of unions in the nation and
the following paper first examines the pros and cons of teacher unions. The paper then argues that teacher unions are ultimately destroying much of the education system in the nation
today and doing nothing to protect the children in the nation and their education. Teacher Unions: Pros and Cons As noted in the introduction, unions are essentially groups
that protect the rights and the safety of employees. As one author notes, in relationship to unions, there are societys that do not possess unions and these are generally seen
as totalitarian societies wherein "individuals are helpless to oppose unfair, arbitrary, and discriminatory treatment by government. The reason is that there are no organizations that have resources and are sufficiently
independent of government to protect individuals" (Lieberman, 2007). This is a pro to having teacher unions in the nation for it protects the teachers, secures their safety, issues of their
pay, and their rights as employees. On the other hand, teacher unions are generally different than other unions perhaps likely due to
the fact that education is a governmental concern, not just a concern of one type of industry or another. "The history of education in the United States reveals a
