Educational Theories of Lev Vygotsky Lev Vygotsky was a Russian psychologist and philosopher from the 1930s, but his most prominent
accomplishment was his social constructivist theory (The Philosophies of Lev Vygotsky, 2002). This theory maintains that "the influences of cultural and social contexts in learning and supports a discovery
model of learning" (The Philosophies of Lev Vygotsky, 2002). Essentially, this model asserts that the teacher is an active participant in the childs education and that the mental abilities
