difference in term of a constructivist approach to pedagogy. Teacher Observation Introduction While there are numerous definitions in educational literature, there is consensus that the foundational concept to the constructivist
approach to learning is the idea that "students are in control of their own learning" (Milbrandt, et al, 2004, p. 19). In other words, this theory departs from the viewpoint
of students as empty vessels that the teacher "fills" with knowledge, as it recognizes the fact that knowledge and comprehension are socially constructed, that is, connected to the skills and
understanding that the student has already achieved, which means that differences in culture and learning style results in students having different and varied needs in order to learn. It is
the teachers task to discern those varied needs and this can be achieved via the use of action research In a research study conducted by Rogers, et al (2007), the
authors investigated the topic of action research and how 114 experienced teachers, who were enrolled in a masters of education degree program, addressed the topic of incorporating constructivist theory into
their pedagogy through the medium of action research. This was a varied group, representing a broad scope of disciplines and grade levels. The findings for this study revealed that action
research provides a means for educators to: 1. establish more personal relationships with students, 2. develop a better understanding of students as learners, and 3. give students a voice
