Migration to the North - which has been called a "devastating absurdist denunciation of life" (Nassaar, 1998, p. 105) - speaks to the false hope and often complete disillusionment the
black community has long experienced throughout history. While the author attempts to convey a sense of accomplishment by way of Mustafas learned background and his liaisons with English women,
one can easily decipher the prevalent racial implications as the mysterious mans tale unfolds. Evident to this dichotomy of self and other is how Salih (1970) - who "shows
how storytelling and collective interpretation can produce hope and corrective action" (Caminero-Santangelo, 1999, p. 7) - masterfully succeeds in achieving this perceived perspective by way of his protagonists adventure, carefully
illustrating the vast and varied intricacies that accompany racially intolerant attitudes of the time. Season of Migration to the North paints a
