The first decade of the 21st century has not been a promising one overall, as far as financial stability is concerned. The economic recession of 2008 was a motivating scare factor in the election, and famously led to a number of "bailout" initiatives. These initiatives, designed to help stimulate the ailing economy, were ultimately funded at the base level by the taxpayers themselves, with each working citizen paying somewhere in the neighborhood of two thousand dollars to help get things back on track. This would be all well and good, perhaps, save for the fact that there is no valid consensus regarding whether or not these bailouts actually helped the economic recovery in the United States in any meaningful way. Consequently, there has been a recent backlash against government spending, with fiscal conservatives seeking to address the economic downturn in a new way: through tax cuts. As such tax cuts increasingly become a political reality, it is right to ask the question: will these measures really help the economy, and if so, how? In this paragraph, the student is helped to look at the nature of the tax cuts being proposed and analyze their potential for helping to stimulate economic regrowth. Tax cuts, on the whole, are a popular way of getting things done in political office. They are, after all, easy to sell to the voter.
