company, having been founded initially in 1868. It is comprised of numerous companies in diverse industries. Their Grand Strategic Plan identifies the business areas in this corporation as being: high
technology, metals and associated industries, consumer precuts, utilities, engineering, which includes automobiles, chemicals and Agro industries, international business, and service industries (Sen, 2009). The company is based in Mumbai, India.
Each of companies acts independently. Each has its own president and board of directors. This situation emerged because of the way JRD Tata managed the company when he
was appointed head of Tata Sons in 1938 (Sen, 2009). He was much younger than many of the managers and did not think giving directions to those who were older
and much more experienced would work very well so he adopted a consensus decision making model (Sen, 2009). It worked but over the decades since then, the managers of each
of the many different companies in the Group created their own little fiefdom to the point that the Tata Group is really non-existent. There are 28 Tata brand
enterprises in this Group. The largest and major companies are "Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata Tea, Indian Hotels and Tata Communications" (Tata
