is a 30-year-old Latina who immigrated to the United States eight years ago from Ecuador. She is Catholic and married with two children, an 11-year-old girl and a 5-year-old
boy. Both children have witnessed varying forms of violence and abuse. Abuse suffered by the client includes physical, emotional, verbal and sexual abuse.
The client left her home three weeks ago but continues to meet with her husband and return to their home for visits. She took their children on
the first visit, but her husband became violent within their hearing and she has not included them in subsequent visits. The client "is
caught in the cycle of violence and is placing herself and the children at risk." She and the worker discuss safety issues to arrive at a plan to be
assessed according to task achievement scaling (Kirst-Ashman and Hull, 2002). Task Achievement Scaling Kirst-Ashman and Hull (2002) present the task achievement scaling method
of intervention evaluation. The method uses a subjective scale of 1 - 4 to describe the degree to which goals have been met in terms of achieving tasks agreed
to at an earlier time. Though assignment of levels 1 - 4 is subjective in that it is not solidly based on measurable results, the task achievement scaling method
is reliable in that its results are uniform when tasks have been completed as agreed. The greatest difficulty in using the scale is
defining tasks to be completed. "Find an apartment" can be listed as a task to achieve for some clients, but others may need to have the goal task broken
