life, and while death is fine, murder and suicide are things to avoid. Taoist writings to an extent each support such basic principles, but there are differences in interpretation when
it comes to the matter of death. While many Taoists believe that the "here and now" is what is most important, some focus on death and actually worry about it.
They come up with ways to fight it, and this is actually something that contradicts Taoist philosophy of letting things unfold at their own pace . Taoists see life as
a coordination of qi, which is also viewed as a vital life force (Veatch, 2000). Light qi is equated with yang, but heavy qi is equated with yin (Veatch, 2000).
Light qi is aligned with life and heavy qi with death (Veatch, 2000). Many are familiar with the yin/yang symbology where half of the drawing is dark and the
other half is light. There is a balance in all things. There are opposites in the world such as life and death, and light and dark, and sweet and sour.
Some may see this phenomenon metaphorically as a dance. The point is that death is a part of life. Both being born and dying are incidents viewed as very special
in the life of individuals because they only are born once and they only die once (Veatch, 2000). Both being born and dying are a form of qi (Veatch, 2000).
