properly! Introduction For centuries, those searching for inner peace have found it through study and adherence to the Tao Te Ching. With
the exception of the Bible, it is the single most translated book in the world. Lao Tzu wrote the Tao more than twenty-five centuries ago as a handbook for
the leaders of ancient China. Lao Tzus teachings explain that lead wisely, one must live wisely and seek personal balance within the balance and cycles of nature (Dreher xiii).
The Tao teaches patience, precision, and timing and shows that the a person who may detach from problems is able to discover solutions. Its purpose or ultimate "goal" in
leading outward to successful action is through first leading inward. The title of the Tao Te Ching exemplifies the essential connection between outer and inner peace. Ching only means
"a holy book" but Tao means "the way," simultaneously a path and principle of order. Throughout the centuries, translators have also defined Tao as the single principle underlying all creation,
the laws of nature, the truth, and the source of all life. The Chinese symbol for Tao is that of a head, representing wisdom, combined with the character used
for "walking." The most closely literal translation would be "walking the path of wisdom." Te means virtue or character and its symbol is made of the elements representing
