the rule of an autocratic leader, and one that has a care for its employees and systems to help them operate effectively. Safe Mint UK Ltd.
Founded in 1902, by Samuel Mint, Safe Mint is still family-owned, with one of the founders descendants at the helm. The company is governed by a board
of directors (of which Mr. Mint is the CE - and he owns 70% of the company share). The company itself is very hierarchical, with decisions being made at the
top - there is little centralization either. Three hundred of the employees work on the shop-floor of the Liverpool production plant and consists of five teams under the supervision of
three project managers who report to the board of directors. The remaining staff work at headquarters in London. Absenteeism and strikes seem to be common in this company, with competition
also hurting profits. Though one of the project managers has plans to reorganize the shop floor and set self-managed teams (along with
new equipment), none of the plans has been finalized or even heard. The project manager cant seem to set up time to meet with the board of directors. The finance
manager is on her 27-day annual leave in Barbados and cant be reached. In the meantime, Mint doesnt want to invest in the money or training to improve working conditions;
