is because the filmmaker sees and understands truths that other people dont see. However, what seems a more likely conclusion is that in the search for the perfect shot, or
angle, filmmakers are forced to slow down actions and reactions, to question cause and effect, and as a by product of this they do tend to see certain truths that
generally remain hidden to the viewing public. A good example of this is the film, Sex, Lies and Videotape, directed by Steven Soderbergh. This film, which reportedly was shot
with a next to nothing budget, won awards at Cannes the year it was finished. Sex, Lies and Videotape focuses on four characters that who all struggling with the issue
of truth. The angle of vision, or point of view, of Soderberghs movie, would seem to be coming the most from the character of Ann, though four other characters
feature prominently. Set in Baton Rouge, one only has to hear the name to know that something sweaty is going to happen, which it does. However, most of the
sweat does not occur in the usual way. Anns husband and she are not cohabitating like normal married people and instead John (her husband) is having an affair with Anns
sister, Cynthia. As if to complicate matters further, Johns old college friend, Graham, shows up in town for a visit and something of a romance starts up with Ann. Tangled
webs aside, this is where the overt view of the filmmaker comes into play, one can state. Graham seems to be the catalyst to the whole film. He is mysterious
and intellectual and like the videographer he has the ability to see through peoples masks. He is able to see through Anns mask to see that she doesnt dislike sex,
