teams (and projects) success (Newell et al, 2007). As such, it becomes the project managers responsibility to build trust among his team for successful completion of a project.
One important step to building trust is first to build respect for fellow team members. King (2007), in her article about trust-building among global
virtual work teams, notes that respect for team members and everything they do is of utmost importance when it comes to building trust. This means that the project manager must
be careful to ensure that everyones voice is heard in the planning process, and that no one is belittled for his or her contributions to the team. A PM who,
for example, belittles the administrative assistant of a team for being "just a secretary" or who yells at a team member in front of others is certain to create a
mistrustful - not to mention hostile - climate among the rest of the team members. Another important tool when it comes to building
trust within a team is keeping the lines of communication open. The project manager who is open and honest with his team - and who encourages open and honest communication
- is one who will generate the trust of his team members (Osif, 2010). Communication is essential, even if the news is bad. Team members would rather know there is
