- high. Because there is little difference between basic car components (they require an engine, four wheels and a steering wheel), the power in this industry lies in consumer perception
and demand. In recent years, that demand has been for more fuel-efficient vehicles. Auto manufacturers that dont pay attention to consumer perceptions or consumers brand loyalty are likely to suffer
declining revenues. Supplier power - low to moderate. Most of the large automakers subcontract some of their activities to a handful
of first-tier suppliers. On this level, supplier power is higher because of knowledge of the auto industry and the ability to meet the stringent demand of automakers. However, the further
down the supply chain we travel, the less supplier power becomes. Second-, third- and fourth-tier suppliers tend to be more generic (and there are more of them). In such situations,
relationships are key. Barriers to entry - moderate. Few, if any, barriers to entry exist when it comes to this industry (Whiston,
