Costello is probably best-known for his work on behalf of the Southeast Asian communities that were swamped by the late 2004
tsunami (Tim Costello, 2009). In the days and weeks that followed the event, Costello, through the WorldVision Australia organization, helped raise more than $100 million for tsunami relief (Tim Costello,
2009). Other issues Costello has lectured, sermonized and written about include indigenous reconciliation, prostitution, gambling and treatment of refugees in detention
centers (Debien, 2001). What is interesting to note about Costello is, despite his regular presence in the media, there doesnt seem
to be much written about Costello the person, versus Costello, the WorldVision leader. There are many pieces out there offering great things to say about this leader. But its difficult
to find out much of substance about him other than his missionary work, the fact hes a minister and the fact he believes global poverty is an injustice that must
be righted. Early Years and Career Costello was born in Melbourne, Australia and was the eldest of three children. From
the limited accounts that were found, his family was very religious. He is also the brother of politician Peter Costello. Educated at
Carey Baptist Grammar School, Costello attended law school at Monash University, from which he graduated in 1978. He practiced law until 1981 when he and wife Merridie went to Switzerland
