industry. This particular 3PL service provider has been nominated as the exclusive service provider for the year 2010 through a contract that binds the exporter and the 3PL for three
years. The annual shipping expenditure of this exporter is estimated at approximately USD $1 million. The 3PL and exporter are meeting in three
weeks time to discuss the terms of the contract, and certain issues that will need to be considered. As the issues are raised, they can then be incorporated into the
contract. The first issue that would be raised are actually five issues - who, what, where, when and how (though "how" is
not typically a "w," its included in this batch). Lets take these one by one. Who. The main issue is to whom, or
where, the goods will be exported, and from where (or whom). Is it from a warehouse? Will there be transportation issues involved? Will the 3PL be required to come to
the company or manufacturing plant to collect the goods, or will the exporter bring the goods to the 3PL? And where will this go? To other warehouses or directly to
other customers? All of this needs to be clearly spelled out in the contract, so there is no confusion. What. What is the
product (or products) that will be brought from point A to point B. Is it garments? Will there be other materials? Are there special considerations, such as material of the
garments? This is important, as silks, for example, need to be shipped and packed differently than cottons or linens. Also, will the 3PLs job be simply to transport the goods?
