was renowned, according to ancient texts, with his skill with a sword, yet not much exists about him as a person. Still, much has been written about the man himself,
his love for his best friend, Lancelot and his queen, Guinevere, the magic of the wizard, Merlin, and Arthurs formation of the courtly Knights of the Round Table. While Arthurian
legends have been dissected and put back together, so have the women in Arthurian legend been dissected and put back together. Depending on who the author or source was of
a given Arthurian tale, the main women of the story - Guinevere, Morgan le Fay, Vivien, the Lady of the Lake and others - appear as good, bad, evil -
or just plain human. The purpose of this paper is to study how literature has dealt with these damsels and to
determine if, based on the times in which Arthur was supposed to have existed, if the characterizations have some basis in fact. Cast of Characters
