2001 become, the harder it has become to sell the American public on the idea of a continued presence in Iraq and the US goal of democratizing that area of
the world. However, if one examines the criteria of a just war and examine the facts surrounding the deployment of troops into that region, one will quickly surmise that, weapons
of mass destruction or not, the war was and continues to be, justified. Ever since one man struggled with another there has always remained the
question of whether or not the decision to fight was the proper course of action. Finally, most international countries adopted a set of criteria, called the Just War Theory, as
a type of yardstick with which decisions about war could be measured. Many have argued that the war with Iraq is not a justified war, that it is all about
oil, that the United States ought to stop playing global policeman and pay attention to its own citizens and concerns. However, according to the Just War theory, not only
was war with Iraq (and Saddam Hussein) warranted, but general decency demanded action. A just war is not started or initiated by a need to acquire more land or to
fight over possession of perceived value, but rather is a decision that is based on some principle such as self defense or an initial defensive action to prevent an attack.
War may also be said to be just when it is in protection of those who are not able to protect themselves, such as the Afghani or Iraqi people, who
have become weakened in their own just cause war. Given these first initial criteria, then, it can be said that the war with Iraq meets this expectation. On September
