Who declared the United States the policeman of the world? What most do not realize however, is that this position is not a new addition to the United States international
policies. The US has a very long history of international involvement. It all began with World War Two, it can be stated. Before this the United States had little
concern for outside interests. America was moving right along with the industrialization and technological advancements and had little interest in international affairs. The United States was just beginning its climb
upward economically and was experiencing a boom in their domestic gross product. World War I had not harmed the United States at all and in fact, it had boosted the
economy to the point where it was poised to overtake Europe in superpower status. Europe had been devastated, or a good portion of it, by the first world war, but
America, though it had been involved, had physically been removed from the damaging affects of it. However, the second world war was another ball game all together. A man
named George Kennan wrote an article which he published under the name Mr. X. This document stated and gave evidential argument to the fact that Russia was a major threat
to democracy and as such a threat to the American way of life. America, then, was bound to halt the spread of communism wherever and whenever it could. Thus, the
idea of containment was born. This idea of containment however can be said to just be a revamping of the old Manifest Destiny phrase from 1845 when John OSullivan
spoke of it as a mission to bring the new idea of federalized government and liberty to the rest of the world. Much of the talk about Manifest Destiny had
