the United Kingdom have been putting forth the idea that the UK should drop its "antiquated" pound system, throw in the towel, and join the euro. After all, the majority
of EU member countries now use the euro as prime currency, and the UK is considered among the last holdouts when it comes to incorporating this currency into its local
and international economy. From a positive perspective, there are three main reasons why the UK should take on the euro. The first
is that there would be a reduction in transaction costs when it came to changing cross-border currencies (Minford, 2004). Again, with the UK being an EU trading partner, there is
a cost affiliated with trading currencies whenever a product is shipped across the border (or received on UK shores). Switching to the euro would eliminate such costs, and means that
resources can be placed elsewhere, where they might be better utilized and where they are more needed. The second reason for a
UK-euro partnership is because there would be a reduction in exchange risks, meaning that there would likely be a greater trade and foreign investment with the remainder of Europe (Minford,
2004). Most investors appreciate foreign direct investment (FDI) when its fairly simple and straightforward. Trying to move investment currency from the euro to the pound, however, is not always straightforward,
especially depending on the fluctuations of either currency. A standard currency across the board means that Europe will be less reluctant to invest in the UK and, vice versa, the
