presentation compared to many of the other works which came before it, The Tempest still is quintessential Shakespeare. The Tempest, especially Act IV, scene 1, presents a moral lesson about
love, revenge, and greed. In Act Four, scene one, Prospero sees that his plan is in full swing. He has laid an elaborate trap designed to snare those who conspired
against him and to make them suffer as he has suffered all these long years. Aiding him in his task are the supernatural spirits which he has come to command
while living on the Island, as well as a few man servants. He has been able to divine that three men are responsible for his long exile on the
Island: Alonso, Sebastian, and Antonio. Of the three, he holds the most animosity for Antonio who is his own brother. And yet, the same type of deception will go on
between Sebastian and Alonso who are also brothers. Part of Prosperos revenge includes separating Sebastian from his beloved son, Ferdinand. He manages this by casting a spell which causes
Ferdinand to fall madly in love with the Kings daughter, Miranda. Miranda has also been stranded on the island with her father and often her beauty is referred to as
a rare and precious gem. Ferdinand does fall in love with Miranda, as was Prosperos plan all along, and is willing to stay with them, even when he has many
chances to leave. It must be stated that Prospero has no intention of killing the conspirators outright, but merely to subject them to the same sorts of experiences he has
had to endure these many years. His magical powers have enabled him to call forth a storm, called a tempest, in order to strand them on his very island of
