and prospective members, including the community in which they are located. Daryl Eldridges book, The Teaching Ministry of the Church, illustrates what the church can do to better impart this
type of education, as well as maintains the position that the church can and should be one of the major influences in the social/spiritual education of a community. Eldridges book
examines four major areas including, biblical foundations which support Christian education, preparations teachers must undergo to begin teaching, lesson planning, and how to train others to teach. His main premise
is that for too long Christian education has been more of a spectator sport, than a participatory one. His book urges change in order to move the anemic Christian toward
a healthier interaction and discovery of his/her own spiritual gifts, enabling them to take their place in serving the church. The ultimate goal of Christian teaching, Eldridge states in Unit
One is Christlikeness(Eldridge 141). This seems to echo the sentiments of other great Christian educators, such as William Yount. Both seem to agree that the decision to become a Christian
educator should not be undertaken lightly. Whereas the disciples call is to learn, the Church and the family are called to teach. Unit one also expounds upon the spiritual teachings
of the Holy Spirit, God, and Jesus. Unit One, which focuses on the biblical foundations which support Christian education, uses the example of Abraham and Isaac. Through his faithful
