ceaseless crusade on behalf of women produced some of the worlds greatest feminist literature. Her works, Professions for Women, A Room of Ones Own, and A Sketch of the Past
speak about women in society and her hopes for their future. Professions for Women can not only be analyzed for its contributions toward literature, but also define the time
and mindset in which Woolf lived, created and struggled against. Given originally as a speech to the Womens Service League, Professions for Women came at a time when women were
taking on roles outside of the home, though many were not professional women by any means. Most of the women during this time were allowed to pursue activities outside of
the home if they were doing work of a charitable nature. Very few women were employed outside the home. However, more and more women were writing. Still, even to that
pursuit Woolf has this to say, "Indeed it will be a long time still, I think, before a woman can sit down to write a book without finding a phantom
to be slain, a rock to be dashed against. And if this is so in literature, the freest of all professions for women, how is it in the new professions
which you are now for the first time entering?"(Woolf). And, even in the modern era, most women still find this to be a certainty, that while they are writing and
doing their lifes work, they still feel torn between their duty to their family and cultural obligations and their pursuit of their own careers, professions and dreams. She also recognized
that there was a terrible waste of incredible and valuable female minds that would never be given a voice in society, never share their insights, and never be in control
