book, The Structure of American Industry attempt to provide their equivalent of the proverbial crystal ball where corporate America is concerned. The predictions that Brock and James have for
the commercial banking industry state that the trends over the last decade have indicted a compression effect that has taken place. Smaller banks have been absorbed into larger conglomerates. However,
Brock and James state that the evidence is inconclusive as to whether these mergers actually affect competition or not. Structural changes will only continue, they predict, with most Americans still
utilizing the banking system as their primary provider of financial services. As a result, any sort of public policy that is will necessarily include a determination of competitive factors and
an examination of key factors toward identifying relevant markets(Brock/Adams 2000). As far as healthcare is concerned Brock and James state that health care is THE largest industry that America
has. While they state that many experts expect that the idea and notion of managed health care will eventually become a fad of the past, they seem dubious as to
whether this will actually happen or not. This is because of the balance and the fine line between having a market force in an industry where the only commodity is
