who are represented oft times by the audience in attendance, that justice has been served. Several well researched films show this point quite well. Inherit the Wind and Anatomy of
a Murder depict two very different audiences. From an analysis of them, it is easy to see if the lawyers greater objectives have been met. Granted, movies are not
reality. Whereas outcomes are contrived and known ahead of time, real life trials are not. However, the writers of both films obviously did their research correctly because one can find
most of the same elements depicted in these movies as would be represented in a real live case. In the movie, Inherit the Wind, what is on trial is not
only a man, but a concept and a commonly held idea about mankind. What this case challenged rocked the courtroom and as such, the audience. What was decided there changed
the course of history. Based on the famous Scopes trials, Inherit the Wind shows the epic battled between two famous lawyers, Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan. The trail covered
the ability of a teacher to teach evolution in a high school biology class. As regards the audience present at the trial, it was a heated courtroom with the battle
lines firmly drawn. The title of the film is taken from the book of Proverbs in the Bible: He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind. As
such, then, John Thomas Scopes was indeed troubling his own house or community. This audience was hostile and saw the court case as attacking their fundamental believe in the sovereignty
of God. This case was not simply a case of one man breaking a rule about teaching evolution, but in a larger sense threatened the status quo in the community.
