"Im in sales," you say. Then comes the reaction. Either you get the polite, tight-lipped smile, or you get
the admiring look and the question, "isnt that hard?" Being in sales is a difficult job. When you sell, youre trying
to convince someone else that he/she wants what you have to offer. Its been said that a good sales person can sell barbecue grills in the desert or refrigerators in
the Arctic. But thats not strictly true. A good sales man or woman tries to figure out why that person might need a barbecue or refrigerator, then, based on that
knowledge, talks the person into owning that product or appliance. It sounds easy, but it isnt. Sales can be a daunting
part of business, in that youre basically walking up to someone cold (more often than not, someone whom you dont know) and are telling that person that they must buy
your product or service (Entrepreneur.com, 2005). But the point is, almost everyone is a salesperson at some time or another during
their life (Entrepreneur.com, 2005). You were, too. You were a mini sales person when you tried to convince your mother or father that you had to have that toy in
