is true, the deacon can be many things to many people, it should be stated that in many ways, the deaconate as viewed through the lens of the prophetic can
perhaps reach a certain segment of the population which would otherwise not be reached. In effect, then, the deacon has one foot in the door, but also another foot on
the street. He is the direct link between the congregation and the church, many believe. Given even this, though, many believe that in the years to come the deacons role
will increase in prophetic vision. It is little more a secret that the Church has undergone some severe press lately. This uncovered a dire need by the Church to undergo
conversion at nearly every level. However, it must be reiterated that deacons, for all their good will, are not priests. They are not laymen anymore either, but rather a curious
hybrid of the two. Most deacons state that they are called to represent Christ on the behalf of the congregation. In other words, the deacon can serve as that bridge
between the secular and the sacred(Christ in the Old Testament, 2003). Prophecy in the Old Testament was relegated those holy men who were called by God to deliver
special messages to the people. Jonah, who refused to take the message the Lord gave him into Nineveh, suffered the consequences of his actions by being swallowed by a great
fish. Prophetic messages, then, are sacrosanct. Can modern-day prophets be found? Could they possibly exist in the churchs deaconate? The reason for having prophets in the Old Testament was
clear. There was no direct link to God, no written word as of yet. Given this, then, the priests had to act as links for the laity. As such, the
