familiar forms of classical poetry, but bent to his will, that sets his poetry apart from any yet published to this day. His poem, The Road Not Taken, typifies that
which makes Robert Frost and his poems, classic. This poem was, ostensibly, written as a gentle joke toward his friend whom he liked to take hikes with. His friend would
nearly always regret the way that they had chosen to go, regretting roads not taken. Frost found this hilarious, since he had been raised to be decisive and live without
regrets. Thus, the road not taken is a reminder that life is too short to second-guess ones decisions. Many have offered that this poem is about decisions; the decision to
conform, or not to conform. However, a closer reading, and an understanding of the circumstances which gave rise to it suggest something different all together. This poem is about regret
and what it can do to a person if they give in to it. Constant regret only causes one to sigh and worry about what might have been. Living in
a world of what might have been is not healthy. Therefore, he is suggesting that when one determines a course of action, that one should stick with it, no matter
how illogical it seems. For example, the path that is chosen needs wear. Not many people have taken this path. It is obviously not the easiest path that he
