a resounding and unanimous "Edgar Alan Poe". One of the techniques that Poe is noted for was his use of recurrent themes in a great deal of his stories. What
this served to prove, beside his incredible intellect, was that one could recycle themes previously used and still have a new and engrossing storyline. This technique of recurrent themes shows
up in the theme of live burial (or buried alive) depicted in both The Cask of Amontillado and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Montressor is upset because another man, Fortunato has insulted him obliging Montressor to avenge his honor. However, he does so in a most cunning way. He pretends
friendship and offers the very drunk Fortunato a very rare type of sherry which he has back at his house. Being a connoisseur of fine wines, he readily agrees and
follows Montressor back to the house. In the very back part of the wine cellars, Montressor guides the very inebriated Fortunato, looking for
the cask of rare sherry called, Amontillado. When Fortunato leans against the wall to get his balance, Montressor handcuffs him to the wall. As Fortunato stands there in a drunken
stupor, Montressor begins to wall him in...alive. As Fortunato begins to sober up and realize what is going on he begins to scream. At first Montressor is afraid that
someone will hear Fortunato, but then realizes that they are too far below the house and street level for anyone to hear him. So, instead of granting Fortunato a quick
