costs less to do so in the long run than it does to oversee a huge department that would do the same thing. In addition, many public-private partnerships have centered
around the development of sports entertainment facilities, such as the city of San Diego, and its Padres Ballpark Development Project (Newell, 2002) and the Governors Island Redevelopment Plan in New
York (Economics Research Associates, 2005). Miami-Dade County is one municipality/county government that is working to develop public-private partnerships, also called PPP. In
this paper, well examine some partnerships that others have developed, and determine if it is helpful for this county. As the student didnt specify what type of economic development activity
we should focus on, well be mentioning inner city development, business development and real estate development. First, well say that the success
of any PPP is strongly dependent on whether both sides get what they want -- in other words, both parties have different incentives, and for a partnership to work, these
incentives need to be understood (Newell, 2002). Second, one example of a PPP is known as an "economic development corporation," which is
a formalized version of a PPP (Shad, 2004). Such EDCs are there to help grow businesses, as well as to encourage others to the community (Shad, 2004).
