Unfortunately, it was too little, too late, it can be stated. Most of the conditions that were addressed by the Progressive Movement, were at such a fever pitch that if
someone hadnt done something soon, there would have been another Civil War. As it stands now, however, it is easy to look back with the clarity of 20/20 vision and
see that the Progressive Era, all the good, bad, and ugly that came from this time, has had a lasting impact on todays society. PROGRESSIVE ERA REFORMS The
student in constructing her own paper will want to choose five reforms which were made and implemented during this time. There were a number of reforms made during this time,
many which are still in force today. The economy as at an all time low and something had to be done. One of the first reforms, the student may wish
to include in her paper, is that of social/domestic policies by the federal government. The internal conditions of the cities, in the form of slums, were appalling to say the
least. Welfare reform, or a basic form of it, was instituted during this time. In addition, there were other reforms, which the student may wish to choose from, instead. These
include: The Homestead Act, National Urban League, direct election of U.S. Senators, child labor laws, and federal regulation of big business(American Cultural History 2003). POPULIST IDEAS The Populists had
come primarily from the upper-class and the well off middle class, usually very well educated. Sort of like the very liberal minded of today, they were quick to espouse causes
