-- an uproar typically ensues. Even in general, whenever anything vaguely religious (or about religion) is taught in the public schools, there
is typically a huge uproar from both sides. But the side that ends up winning out is the side that is able to rid the classroom of religious teachings.
But what, exactly, is wrong with teaching religion in a public school system? By taking religion out of the public schools, are we
advocating a moral decay? Would children be better behaved with a display of the Ten Commandments on top of blackboards? The truth
is, the teaching of religion in public schools is not a new issue -- its been around since the 1800s, when Protestants and Catholics fought over which was the "best"
Biblical translation to be taught (Robinson, 2006). Morality aside, religion needs to stay out of public schools and be taught in the
home for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons is the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The clause, "Congress
shall make no law respecting establishment of religion" has been interpreted by many legal minds as that infamous "separation of church and state" rule (Robinson, 2006).
