culture is that, for whatever reason, they tend to believe that everyone should fit into a one size fits all box in regard to morality. However, while it is simply
not ethical for one culture to superimpose its belief system onto that of another, it is possible to adhere to a certain standard of morality from which other societies might
be judged. Therefore, one has to state that morality is not relative to where one finds oneself in respect to time, place, and cultural situation. Of course, cultural relativism is
appropriate in some respects. For example, food, clothing, language, and driving rules are different within cultures, and its important that these relative differences remain. However, these are not issues of
universal "right" and "wrong." These are not matters of mathematical certainty. These are not issues of "truth." In a relativistic society, we have no right to judge or punish anyone.
Right and wrong are now defined by socialization. Society changes and morality becomes a moving target. In truth, if the standard of right and wrong is based on relativism, then
society has no standards at all. The assumptions as to the definition of cultural relativism seems quite acceptable, but on the other hand the actual application of cultural relativism
smacks of anarchy. As long as we dont "hurt" anyone, anything goes. Absolute truth has been discarded. It would seem that there is no universal idea of what is right
and what is wrong. Those who espouse cultural relativism tend to state that all views are equally as valid. However, if one actually and logically tests this theory then
cultural relativism doesnt have a philosophical leg to stand on. For example, if the idea of relativism is true and all points of view are equally true, then one
