terminate a pregnancy. Others argue that it is not ethical. Most, however, fall somewhere in between this normative argument and are left wondering whose argument, pro or con, makes the
most sense. Of late, the argument stemming from the abortion issue is that of partial birth abortions. This procedure allows the pregnancy to be terminated in the latest stages of
pregnancy possible. There was an instant outcry in the early nineties when this procedure was introduced. Legislative bans were enacted in many states, sparking harsh debates against those who would
not do the moral thing by banning such procedures. However, this argument on behalf of morals is not a sound one, if one takes a closer look. Moral arguments
always seem to assume a worldview. It assumes that this worldview is consistent, valid, and never changing, which is simply not the case. In most of the civilized nations of
the world, abortion is a viable procedure available to women who do not wish to carry a child. In addition, a recent article presents the argument that abortion laws
unfairly target women of color. "African Americans make up 13 percent of the population," states Day Gardner, director, Black Americans for Life, "yet African-American women have more than 35% of
all abortions in the United States. The abortion rate of Black women is three times that of White women." Anti-abortion activists argue that if abortion were legalized and condoned
in all phases of pregnancy that it would increase the amounts of abortions performed and as such would eventually pave the way for selective birth choice. Ertelts article argues this
