about the value of providing tuition reimbursement and making time for adult learning. The argument could be structured as follows. I realize economic
times are tough. And I also know that, during difficult economic times, the first thing to go is the perks, such as training, tuition reimbursement and adult education. However, eliminating
these perks from our budget would be a huge mistake. Training and tuition reimbursement have been found to provide employees with the skills to operate more effectively in this environment.
Additionally, better-trained employees ultimately lead to more loyal employees which, in turn, leads to increased productivity and less voluntary turnover. For these reasons, its important that the budget for training
and tuition reimbursement remain untouched, or at least, unmodified to a great degree. First, lets address the issue of employees with better skills.
Theres little doubt that when employees join our company, theyre hired because of a specific skill set. But most qualified employees will also join a company because of potential future
opportunities. To get from point A (where they are now) to point B (where they might want to be at our company) will require some type of education or adult
learning. The companies that succeed are those that promote from within, but to get employees to that stage where they can consider being promoted requires that they be trained for
the future jobs. The best way to do this, to help them increase skills and to remain with our company, is to provide some kind of tuition reimbursement and/or training
