include such topics as cell phones and brain cancer, the liberal media, and the Area 51 cover-up. ZEITGEIST NUMBER ONE: CELL PHONES CAUSE CANCER What kicked off this Urban
Legend was the unheard of lawsuit by a neurologist who blamed his brain cancer on his heavy cell phone usage(Nordenberg 2000). He actually sued his cell phone company. This
made great headlines all over the country and millions of people began to believe it. This Zeitgeist can be said to have negatively impacted the population to the point that
people were discontinuing their cell phone services. The effect on the unconscious became profound, even after it was determined that there was
no scientific proof to the claims, even though the neurologists tumor was in the exact location where he would have held his phone. To many, however, the remotest possibility was
still too much of a chance and they discontinued cell phone usage. According to several surveys nearly a third of all Americans
still believe that they will get cancer by overuse of their cell phones. By and large, this is not a bad urban legend in that it more than likely cut
down on the amount of time people spent talking on their cell phones while engaging in other activities such as driving. However, its effect on race, gender, and sexual orientation
are negligible. What seems to have remained, however, is that cell phone usage should be limited in time, not because the minutes cost so much, but because of the amount
