proper mixture, these ingredients produce a rapid chemical reaction that produces an explosion. Basically, the faster the chemical reaction the more explosive the result. Gunpowder was used in non-lethal ways
before it was used to project bullets. Many miners utilized it to blast apart rocks inside mining operations. However, gunpowder is still best known for its use as a weapons
munition. The ability to project an object a further distance than one could throw ostensibly gave rise to the development of rifles, guns, cannons and other such instruments of
war. Before the onset of gunpowder, weapons were made of metal, involved swords, cudgels, spears, and the like. While warfare during this period of time was vicious, it did not
