individuals manage to accomplish these goals better than others. One such example of this would be Margaret Thatcher, the Prime Minister of Great Britain. During her term of office she managed to shake up the British policies which had caused the British economy to stagnate for decades. It was her particular vision coupled with her abilities as a leader that aided in her immense accomplishments. Margaret Thatcher leadership and accomplishments A great leader often must take a hard stance against policies which have been ingrained into the usual way of life. This does not always make for popularity. Thatcher knew that the economy must be addressed and changed if recovery and progress was to be made. It can be said, then, that one of the greatest characteristics that a leader can possess is a full and clear view of the strengths and weaknesses of an organization, institution, business, or in Thatchers case, a country. Falklands War Part of Thatchers overall plan was to also reinvigorate foreign policies. In the early eighties the Falkland Islands were forcibly occupied by the Argentine government. Both Great Britain and Argentina claimed sovereignty over the islands. Perhaps the Argentines believed that no country governed by a woman would resort to war, let alone have the stomach for it. They were wrong. What the Falklands served to show was that not only was Thatcher an able adversary, but that she possessed another great characteristic of a true leader. She knew how to surround herself with knowledgeable people, and then to let them do what they do best. She exploited the weaknesses of the Argentine forces while continuing to apply pressure until the Argentine forces dispersed.
