and write it up. The following is how such a paper could be structured. Im a Southern Baptist, born and raised in North
Carolina. As such, Im used to a few things when it comes to my faith - such as the concept of sin and baptism, as well as church services on
Sundays. When I was asked to do field research about Judaism, I wasnt sure what to expect. Certainly Ive known Jewish people -
but they arent forthcoming about their religious services or rituals. The only visible part of Judaism with which I was familiar was probably a stereotypical one. Older men, with glasses,
wearing funny little caps (I learned later these were called "kippahs" or "yarmulkes" and that they are worn by religious Jews to cover ones head as a respect to God).
The only other thing I knew about Jews was that they celebrate their Sabbath on Saturdays, rather than on Sundays, as Christians do. I also knew they mumble their prayers
in Hebrew. The other thing I found curious (and someone interesting) is that Jews do believe in sin (just not Original Sin), and
they confess their sins only once a year, on what is called Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement. Jews are mandated to observe this holiday; according to Leviticus 16,
"in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month you shall afflict your souls . . . for on that day, He shall provide atonement for you to
cleanse you from all your sins before the Lord . . ." I learned that on this day, Jews fast, do penance, and
