a mandate that will improve something in the company (whether it be operations, sales, marketing or whatever). And employees follow that mandate without a word, taking advantage of growth opportunities
along the way. But real life, as we know, isnt quite like that. Even if change management ultimately leads to more positive
gains by both companies and employees, there tends to be resistance when it comes to change, learning or growth; along with the mentality of "weve always done it that way,
and it works, so why toy with it?" The "weve always done it this way" argument is used frequently, even when everyone is aware of the fact that "doing it
this way" means being mediocre. Change itself (as well as learning initatives), at least according to Peter Senge (1999), requires work, allocation,
reflection and training. It takes people getting together and getting along and being on the same page of change (Senge, 1999). It also takes time - and Senges notes that
"not enough time" is also a barrier in learning organizations to change, much like the "weve always done it this way before" has been.
In this particular paper, the student has been asked to play the role of a CEO of a company that is to initiate some form of change management.
With this role, the student needs to realize what the potential resistance to change might be, how he or she could encourage change, the tools necessary to promote change and
