The purpose of this paper is to try to address such questions through analysis of the Internet both in the past and where it is now. At the
end of the paper, well also examine the predictions of some experts as to where the Internet will be five or ten years down the road. The Internet: A History
Before doing anything more, its a good idea to examine the history of the Internet. These days, we think nothing of
using the Internet on a daily basis -- almost everyone that has access to a computer checks e-mail several times a day, surfs the Web for the latest news and
information and makes purchases online. The Internet, with its World Wide Web, is so much a part of our lives, its interesting to consider that 40 years ago there
was no such thing as an Internet. In fact, the term "Internet" wasnt widely used until 1982 (PBS Online, 1997). The term itself, however, was first brought up by
