beings into an altered state? Or does it? Many have suggested that the moon affects human beings on a psychological and physiological level, while others suggest that it is merely
a cultural reaction and nothing more. The evidence suggests otherwise. Psychologically speaking one must go back to the very beginning of mans existence. Aggression was a normal part, presumably, of
the average caveman. Aggression is considered a basic life function and as such is subject to various biological rhythms. Interestingly enough, it has been only within the last century that
bio-rhythms have been found to be in sync with the lunar-synodic cycle(Lieber 1978). When one thinks about it the idea makes sense. Animals bodies are very much in tune
with the light effects of both sun and moon. These cycles stimulate chemical changes in their bodies which move them through the various cycles of their lives. Everything from shedding
to mating are induced by the amount of light which is present. It is arrogant to assume that early mankind was not similarly affected by these same heavenly effects. Though
mankind has evolved in many respects, perhaps the reaction to the moon is more than mere psychological hysteria. This synchronicity is more than likely a hold-over from our
very ancient ancestors, experts theorize. Experts tracked the biorhythms of various individuals and found that the new moon and the full moon elicited the most effect. What was interesting to
note, though, was that not everyone became agitated. Instead, some acted just the opposite, becoming uncommonly relaxed and thoughtful. To understand why this is so researchers state that all
organisms show periodic increases and decreases in aggressive behavior in relationship to the new and full moons. However, the direction that the aggression takes depends on whether the person is
