of significance in a house of worship. Stephen Spielbergs movie, Jaws, splashed onto the scene in 1975 and handed the three men in the movie another kind of reminder, a
grim one. Such was the impact of the movie, Jaws, that it would influence an entire generation of filmmakers and would serve to launch the boat of one of the
film industrys greatest captains. Amity Island, fourth of July. Martin Brody is prepared to do the usual chore of making certain that the
festivities dont get out of hand. But, when a severed hand is found on the shore, his hopes for a quiet holiday are ruined. Leading up to this capitulating scene,
however, is one that has become a cultural icon. Two notes. Low. Forbidding. Played slowly. A fin breaks the surface of the
water. A beautiful woman swims naked and free in the moonlit ocean. Two notes. Played faster. A camera shot shows a silent shadow pass under the naked body of the
woman. Two notes playing so fast that one finds ones heart beating along in time as the audience watches the woman briefly
dunk below the surface. There is no surprise on her face. There is no horror on her face. What is happening? The
full orchestra blares as the woman is once again tugged under the surface. There is barely a struggle, barely a sound, only blood clouds the upshot of the moon as
it filters through the moonlit waters. Then there is silence. This opening scene is one of
