this particular paper, we will focus on the hero Achilles as, according to the definition of "hero," Achilles fits the picture. He eschews material gain in favor of doing what
is right; he fights for the glory of war and he is a constant source of energy to his men. The questions that this essay will attempt to answer include
how Achilles denies materialism through war and what is his need to contend with the living. The main source for this particular paper is The Iliad, with appropriate lines quoted
below. The first step in writing such an essay should involve a general description of what, exactly, The Iliad is about. As
most people know, much of The Iliad deals with the grim and rather gory description of the Trojan War and its impact on certain heroes, such as Achilles, Hector, Odysseus
(although he is more prevalent in The Odyssey) and Telemachus. Through this poem, Homer focuses on the lives and loves of each of these men, but focusing on the number
one hero Achilles, the most of all. In this particular section, the student should provide an overview of Achilles, who is a
