food and shelter will be severely challenged placing a strain on the national welfare and healthcare systems. But the overall question still remains: Why do the immigrants become homeless in
the first place? And What sorts of circumstances could be changed so that this does not happen? Most of the immigrants to Canada come from China, India, Pakistan, Philippines, South
Korea, USA, Iran, Romania, UK and Colombia.(IIA 2004). The International Immigration Agency reports that there are many factors surrounding the reasons immigrants become homeless. Many who come into the country
have left behind their social and emotional support systems and the acclimatization time can be longer. What this means, then, is that there is no one to understand their cultural
background or mindset. In Canada, of course, there are many pockets, or areas, where immigrants of like backgrounds have settled together. This provides the needed emotional and social support which
is needed in the first few months. However, if an immigrants job situation dictates it, he or she may find themselves having to move away from these areas which leaves
them to attempt to deal with the problem of language barriers and cultural differences. If the immigrant is not able to learn the language fast enough to communicate with others
he/she is severely handicapped in most of the work that they could accomplish. As a result, many immigrants who do not have a grasp of French or English opt to
