Sometimes people move from one place to another to seek a better way of life, and sometimes people are forced from their chosen places. Regardless of why a person or a group of people may move or migrate from one place to another, it can be assumed that no move is easy. For the Prophet Muhammad(Peace Be Unto Him), the move came as both a directive from God and out of a concern for the safety of his followers. The events that led up to the Hijrah are interesting and noteworthy, it can be said. Muhammad (pbuh) grew up in Mecca, where he lived a life most like any other boy of the region. However, later in his life, God would send the angel, Gabriel to give Muhammad(pbuh) a message for the people. According to both the SIRA and the Haddith Muhammad(pbuh) attempted to share this message with everyone whom he came into contact with. This met with incredible resistance. Part of this resistance stemmed from the fact that for decades those living in Mecca had been the principle spot for pilgrims coming into the city to pay tribute and homage to various gods and goddesses. The commerce and economy largely depended on the tourist dollars. When Muhammad (pbuh) began preaching that there was only one true God, the cities leaders knew that this was a dangerous doctrine for the city economically and so they sought to suppress the prophets message. They openly let it be known that anyone associated with Muhammad(pbuh) could be stoned or mistreated.
