love. Sidonie Colette in her work, The Hand, show a progression of one womans perspectives and outlook toward her husband. A narrator who never names the protagonist, a young,
newly married woman, tells this story. It is an age old scene which opens up the story. They are lying in bed together and the young wife, still very much
in love, rolls over to observe her new husband. She declares that she is too happy to sleep. The story of their
courtship unfolds and the reader learns that the newly wed is very na?ve about marriage, love, and the reality of life. Her own life experiences, the reader learns, have been
